We're not really sure if we're buying Sefko on this one as none of the other papers paid any attention to Wade Phillips talking Monday about wanting to get both the backs a lot of carries.

Anyone have anything on Tashard Choice? Sure looked good last year.

Right now, it's assumed that Barber just strained his left quad on a 35-yard run in the fourth quarter Sunday night. But judging by the way Barber went down, it would be surprising if he's not at least limited in practice this week. We'll get an update from the Cowboys today on their No. 1 back.

</TD></TR><TR><TD vAlign=top colSpan=3>Newy Scruggs of NBC 5 in Dallas-Ft. Worth is reporting that Marion Barber's quadriceps injury will keep him out of action for one to two weeks.
Scruggs has team connections as a local sports anchor who hosts a radio show on the Cowboys station. The 1-2 week timetable has not been reported elsewhere, though, so it's far from concrete. If true, expect Felix Jones to start and split carries with Tashard Choice against the Panthers this week. Both backs would be worth using as flex plays against Carolina's struggling run defense.

SJax was out 4 weeks with the same thing last year. The 1-2 weeks may be wishful thinking.

</TD></TR><TR><TD vAlign=top colSpan=3>Marion Barber (quadriceps) participated in Cowboys practice Wednesday.
He flashed a thumb's up and said he feels "fine." It's a promising sign for Barber's chances of facing Carolina, especially with an extra day in between because the teams play Monday night. MBIII was seen catching passes and "moving around in a light jog" at the start of practice. He'll likely be "limited" when the injury report comes out later today, and remains questionable for Week 3.

</TD></TR><TR><TD vAlign=top colSpan=3>Per ESPN.com's Matt Mosley, Marion Barber (quadriceps) is determined to "put himself in position to play" Monday against the Panthers.
Barber has shown "slight" improvement and is expected to be a limited participant in Thursday's practice for the second straight day. MBIII's push to play through the injury could be related to owner Jerry Jones questioning his toughness last season when he sat out against the Steelers with a toe injury. Keep an eye on practice updates Friday and Saturday.

</TD></TR><TR><TD vAlign=top colSpan=3>Marion Barber (quadriceps) participated in a limited practice again on Thursday.
Felix Jones and Tashard Choice handled most of the reps, but coach Wade Phillips is in no hurry to make a final decision. "Marion wants to play on Monday, I think that's the key," Phillips said. "He wants to play. We were able to practice him some, so we'll just have to see." Even if Barber can play, the Cowboys could choose to play it cautiously and hold him out a week. Expect a game-time decision.

</TD></TR><TR><TD vAlign=top colSpan=3>ESPN's Matt Mosley reports that the Cowboys are "leaning toward" holding Marion Barber (strained quads) out for Monday Night Football.
ESPN's Adam Schefter adds that Barber's practice participation Friday is "limited." Dallas will go with its impressive depth, with Felix Jones likely drawing the start and Tashard Choice rotating in. Note that Jones, not Choice, received the goal-line carry in Week 2 immediately after Barber's injury. Felix executed on his first try and has a terrific matchup against Carolina.

</TD></TR><TR><TD class=vaLink>Barber was "limited" again in practice and the Cowboys can get away with sitting him in this matchup. Jones is next on Dallas' depth chart, but No. 3 back Tashard Choice is more of a grind-it-out runner and has demonstrated the ability to carry heavy workloads. They're both solid RB2 bets if MBIII is out.

Jones said the Cowboys will continue to play it "conservative" with MBIII instead of risking an aggravation of his strained thigh. Look for Felix Jones to start and Barber to be among Dallas' inactives on Monday Night Football.

Felix Jones - RB - Cowboys Report: Felix Jones is starting over Choice
Baldinger says Jones will be pulled off kick returns because of his increased ball-carrying duties. It's going to be a rotation, but Jones looks like the slightly better fantasy play if you are deciding between the two. September 28

</TD></TR><TR><TD vAlign=top colSpan=3>ESPN Dallas' Calvin Watkins reports Felix Jones will miss Sunday's game at Denver. The Dallas Morning News is calling his injury a sprained PCL.
Jones' Tuesday MRI revealed the sprain. The Cowboys don't expect him to be fully recovered until mid-October, so he'll likely miss Week 5 at Kansas City and take advantage of the Week 6 bye. For the moment, Tashard Choice is the Cowboys' only healthy running back, though Marion Barber will push to play this week.

</TD></TR><TR><TD vAlign=top colSpan=3>ESPN's Michael Smith reports that the Cowboys "feel really good" about Marion Barber's (quadriceps) status for Week 4.
Smith reiterates that Barber was close to playing Monday night and wanted to badly, but the Cowboys exercised caution with Felix Jones and Tashard Choice ready to go. They need Barber now that Jones (PCL sprain) is set to miss 1-2 weeks. MBIII may be "eased" back in with Choice playing well, but we'd still expect him to receive 15-18 touches and any goal-line chances.

Marion Barber - RB - Cowboys Marion Barber limited on Wednesday
All signs still point to Barber playing against Denver. He may be limited some in the game because Tashard Choice has been so effective, but would still be worth using in fantasy leagues. MBIII is Dallas' best all-around back. September 30

Jones said Barber would start against the Broncos if he looks "really strong" in practice on Thursday and Friday. We expect him to split carries with Tashard Choice, but Barber would still be worth using in fantasy leagues. Check back for practice updates to make sure he's good to go.

He'll be re-evaluated next week, but we're tentatively expecting him to be sidelined through the Week 6 bye. Though Chauncey Washington will likely be activated from the practice squad, Marion Barber and Tashard Choice will carry the load against the Broncos.

Owner Jerry Jones said Barber would start at Denver if he looked "really strong" in practice, and this is a good sign. Asked if Tashard Choice would see more snaps than the No. 2 back normally does, coach Wade Phillips answered, "We'll have to feel it out, but certainly I think that could be the case."

It was his second straight full practice. Barber may only be 85-90 percent at Denver, but should get the ball in scoring situations and would be impossible to sit in fantasy leagues, even with the Broncos' defense playing well. Josh McDaniels' team, of course, hasn't faced an offense as talented as the Cowboys'.
